The big Geoffrey debate
I like Geoff Boycott. I think he talks a lot of sense, unlike a number of the more recently retired ex-pros who tend to be up-the-arses of the current players. As I have said to KT below, Boycott is a bit like Simon Cowell; even though you might not like him you know he's right. However, I know that he divides opinion (to say the least). So what do other people think, is he a woman-beating self-obsessed Yorkshire tw*t or a straight-talking cricketing legend?
Your thoughts please....(in the meantime here's some great footage of crowd-pleasing Geoffrey at his best:)

Geoff Boycott = tosser
Ooooohhhh, I'm actually quite partial to Geoffrey!
Boycott is God. Particularly like the bit in the video when he tries to fight a spectator.
Do you mean "Boycott is good" or did you mean to say "boycott God" ...
Oh, and the video was class!!!
Arggghhh, boycott is right by what he says and knows his game better than a lot of ex players who commentate. I give you that but why does he have to be such a tw*t about it?
On TMS he happily takes the p*ss out of Agnew and everyone else but can't take it himself. It only Took CMJ one sentence to shut the arrogant man up.
"Geoff, i believe we've both been run out on 99"
he can give it but he can't take it and to me, that's just lame.
I think that Boycott is just a misunderstood big teddy bear.
Actually i'm surprised that Wes hasn't piled into this debate.
While I have called him "the twat in the hat", my views on GB are hugely complicated.
Ultimately we have to distrust him: he's from Yorkshire and thinks the world revolves around that part of England. Let me tell you this Geoffrey: not true.
Moreover, his style of batting was appaling. Selfish and slow. Neither of which would get into any team that I was selected.
However, his commentary is brilliant. He genuninely hates Australians and is truly partisan. And when any Australian hurts himself his response is to laugh. In a game like cricket that can be so far up its own arse, he is a refreshingly partisan - if he hadn't been brought into the establishment he would have been barmy army.
So that is my view: 1) complete knob, but 2) one of us. If he wasn't from Yorkshire he'd be brilliant.
(Also his politics is worth noting, but we have always said 'no politics' on this site).
I have been reliably informed that he now lives in Dorset. A bit like that other famous cricketing son of Yorkshire, Darren Gough, who now lives in Essex.
Actually, when I was a boy Boycott was a bit of a hero. But I've grown up since then and recognise that (a) he was afraid of Lilley and Thompson and (b) he is a wife beater, so I'm not such a fan as I was.
Unlike most of you, I am old enough to remember him playing, though.
agree with the above. Boycs knows his onions and is a funny guy and if you like your wifebeaters to vote UKIP he's your man
hello all, great website.
Do we know that GB supports UKIP or is it just a (well reasoned)hunch ? I know no politics on this website, but I'd love to know.
Today was too awful to bear wasn't it ?
Cheers,
M D-L
M D-L,
Just google Geoff Boycott UKIP - there's links to wikipedia, the BBC and the official UKIP website.
The 4th Test was shocking, positively shocking. (As Shaun Connery would say!)
I've done a bit from the MCG on my site. If we can't laugh at this latest failure, we'll all end up crying! :-(
I HAVE WRITTEN TO GEOFFREY FOR YEARS AND HE HAS ALWAYS WRITTEN BACK.HE IS THE GREATEST MY NUMBER ONE HERO IN LIFE
