Lord Gary of Pratt

Sad news for us all. Gary Pratt (a name every loyal England fan should follow with the words "Ashes Hero") has been released by Durham CCC.

Who he? You may say. Well he's a couple of photos to remind you.

Yes. That's right. He's the man that won the Ashes for us. The man that tipped Ponting over the edge. The Third Man who was our best man. He was also the only Ashes Hero not to receive an honour from the Queen - even Collingwood got a gong for his non-appearance at the Oval.

You can tell Durham they are wrong and they have a responsibility to employ a national hero by clicking here.

Non-Appearance? He played. Batted twice and had Langer dropped at slip. So how you classify that as a non-appearance?
Sadly Pratt has been woeful this season. He started off in the Durham first XI but he proveeded to score in binary. He was dropped for, I think, Ben Harmison - Steve's younger brother

Sorry Barry. I should have been clear. By non-appearance, I meant his failure to deliver anything to the game (which is not to attack his subsequent record for England)

As you rightly say, he dropped Langer, was LBW for 7 in first innings, caught by Ponting for 10 in the second and his bowlnig figs were 4 overs for 17.

To be fair that could be described as not turning up.

You are right about Pratt; its just a shame to see him go - he is a psychological winner for us and a complete headf**k for Ponting.

You are completely wrong abut Collingwood. Check out how many balls he faced in the second innings. He did an important job using up the overs, which was what we needed to happen.

OK John. That is a fair enough. But my main point really wasn't to slag Collingwood off. It was to point that Pratt's runout of Ponting was a critical moment in the series yet he has not received the recognition for it... and now he is unfortunately leaving cricket.
